The “hahahahaa” heard across the room

Some time ago Quince decided that my ipod touch was meant for him. He claimed it and I have rarely seen it since. I am still allowed to use it when we go on a walk and I play music with it but generally speaking that’s it. On this ipod, we have added a few videos from the Sesame Workshop. One of them is Panwapa, a show about a floating island. A few days ago he was watching it and suddenly I heard laughter. Since I wasn’t watching him closely I though he just left the ipod on and went off to play with something. Boy was I wrong. As it turns out there is a scene in the show which just causes he to break out in an amazingly joyous laughter. This isn’t one of the parts that is meant to be funny even. Nevertheless, each time we hear it is quite cute.

Overall, we have been reminded nearly everyday how we are out of the realm of infant and into that of toddler. While Quince doesn’t really have any words, he is very expressive about what he wants through gestures, pointing and/or leading you there. He can say hi, bye, yeah and mom(which still sounds more like mum), finally he says either something that sounds like yum or mmm while eating something he likes, occasionally he’ll say dada. Quince is also an amazing problem solver. And usually does so before getting too frustrated.

Recently, he has discovered that he likes to color. So we’ve been trying to explore that more by getting him some crayons. I try to speak Chinese with him as well but it’s rather basic stuff.

At our recent 18 month appointment a couple weeks before he actually turned 18 months he was: 31 inches tall, 21.5 pounds.

Last month we got him size 5 shoes! He’s also starting to become too tall for his 12 month size pants, although some are still ok.

We have continued to attend our Music Together classes. Quince loves them. This fall session, class is on Monday nights so Richard isn’t able to come as Sequim City Band rehearsals are that night as well. This is our 3rd session and he’s finally starting to really get into the classes. He’ll run around the room with the other kids, as well as sing. When we are at home, it isn’t uncommon to have him “sing” and do all the motions for the Hello Song. It’s amazing to see how much he’s learned from that in such a short time.
