Vespa’s new quilt

A brief look into the making of Vespa’s new quilt.

After I completed Inara’s quilt, saw how large it was I quickly decided that Vespa would need a new quilt. No longer a baby but turning into a young girl, it was time for her to have a quilt that matches.

As the photos show, I came up short on the subway tile side. The reason is entirely my fault. Each tile was sewn on the short end, when they were all put together I had one really long strip. From there I made cuts so that I could put them together on the long end. This method worked very well. The problem came when I accidentally shifted, making longer strips. When I finished sewing I was roughly two rows short. Bummer.

While almost all of the fabric used was already in my stash, a few prints were new. Luckily I had purchased one I decided would not go into the final product. Since I bought it with certain colors in mind, I didn’t need to worry about those clashing. I cut enough to make a mock chair rail style board on each end, centered the subway tile pieces and sewed.

While not without hiccups, I like how this turned out. Best of all, Vespa loves it.
