Recently I have really gotten back into crochet and started to more seriously learn knitting. My mom first taught me how to crochet when I was probably around 10 years old, maybe a few years younger than that even. Why did I want to learn? Her and my grandma made things and I thought it was neat. Needless to say through my teenage years, you would never catch me with a crochet hook in hand; I had better things to do like band or gymnastics, or studying. Yes, I am/was a nerd.
While in college I revisited this craft, mostly just playing around. At the time I was living with Kami in Ellensburg and she knits. So we would sit and do yarn craft together. Spring, summer and autumn come around and I abandon this for other things. Back in 2008 I really got going again. Why? I really wanted a hat. I love knit hats and not finding one I liked I decided I would learn(finally) how to make a crochet circle. That’s kept me going since! Yes I still mostly give up my yarn habit during those 3 times of the year, but I’m happy to say this year I’ve really learned a lot of neat things. Getting back into yarn habits was helped by taking a crochet class at our newly opened yarn store. As they are still getting started their selection changes just about week. I find them really helpful and fairly good teachers.

- Several new stitches
- Knitting on circular needles
- Tricks on not having your first chain or cast on too tight(woot, very handy)
And probably the best thing I’ve learned is keeping a consistent gauge! Something everyone struggles with at some point.
